1. How can I install NewsCopier for Palm?
In order to run on Palm device, NewsCopier requires Java runtime to be installed on your Palm device.
The best Java runtime for Palm devices is IBM's WebSphere Everyplace Micro Environment.
Download IBM’s WebSphere Everyplace Micro Environment

Please open this download page in your web browser

Fill in the download form and press request download button.

On next page read the Software License Agreement.

The download and installation instructions will be shown an the next page.

Download WEME571.zip (1.77MB ZIP File).
-
Extract the contents of the zip file using any unzip utility.
Note the location where the folder WEME571JVM is unzipped to.
Install IBM’s Java runtime on Palm device

Launch Palm Desktop. Select Quick Install icon.

Select the correct user name from the User list.
-
Navigate to the WEME571JVM folder.
-
In that folder, open the JVM \ ARM4T folder.

In that folder, select J9JavaVMMidp20.prc and JavaVMCheck_enUS.prc.
-
If you want a non-English version, you should install these files:

J9JavaVMMidp20.prc file
-
J9JavaVMMidp20_xx.prc file with your language version ("de" is German, "es" is Spanish, "fr" is French, "it"
is Italian, "ja" and "jp" are Japanese, "zh" and "CN" are Chinese)

JavaVMCheck_xxXX.prc file with your local version

Drag and drop the selected files to the Quick Install window (Main Memory section).

IMPORTANT: IBM Java runtime must be installed in Main Memory of your Palm device.

Perform HotSync operation.
Install NewsCopier on Palm device

Launch Palm Desktop. Select Quick Install icon.

Select the correct user name from the User list.
-
If you downloaded NewsCopier package as Zip file, please unzip it first.

Select NewsCopier.prc file.
-
In order to install NewsCopier to device Main Memory, drag and drop NewsCopier.prc to Main Memory section of
the Quick Install window.

In order to install NewsCopier on Storage Card, drag and drop NewsCopier.prc to Storage Card section of
the Quick Install window.

Perform HotSync operation.
Configure IBM’s Java runtime on Palm device

Open Launcher on your device
-
Select Prefs in the System category
-
Select NewsCopier from the drop-down list at the top of the screen.
If NewsCopier isn't shown on the drop-down list, select Global preferences.

If your device supports resolution 320x320 or higher, make sure that Use high resolution coordinates is checked.

Increase Memory Maximum to at least 4 MB.

Increase Stack Size to at least 16 KB.

Tap Done.
Run NewsCopier on Palm device

Open Launcher on your device.
-
Tap NewsCopier application icon to run the application.
-
You may need to switch to the Unfiled category in the Launcher to locate it
among your other installed applications.
Uninstalling NewsCopier and the IBM’s Java runtime from Palm device
If you decided to remove NewsCopier from your device, please do the following:

In the Palm Launcher, select App | Delete.

Delete NewsCopier first, before deleting IBM's Java runtime.

Uninstall IBM Java runtime by deleting the following items from the list:

IBM Java VM
-
J9 Exchanger
-
J9 Java Launcher
-
J9 Java Options
-
J9 MIDP Bundle
-
Tap Done to return to the Launcher.
